Depth, access, and restoration drive the number

A shallow spot repair in open soil is a different project from replacing a deep line beneath concrete. Length, depth, pipe diameter, soil, access for machinery, utility conflicts, dewatering, permits, and disposal can all influence the price.

Camera inspection and locating add diagnostic cost but can reduce uncertainty. Trenchless methods may carry specialized installation costs while avoiding substantial surface demolition and replacement.

  • Location and depth of the defect
  • Spot repair versus full replacement
  • Open trench, lining, or pipe bursting
  • Concrete, driveway, patio, or landscaping restoration
  • Permits, inspections, and utility locating

Put competing quotes on the same scope

Compare the same work, not just the total. One estimate may include excavation, new cleanouts, permits, backfill, testing, concrete replacement, and haul-away while another excludes several of those items.

The scope should explain what happens if exposed damage is more extensive than the camera showed. Change-order terms, payment schedule, warranty coverage, and responsibility for hidden conditions should be clear before work begins.
